Anti-panic recipe to accompany your job search

We know that job searching has highs and lows. I’ve often described it as an emotional rollercoaster.
You can understand why – there’s so much tied into our work beyond money. It gives us a place in the world, a sense of belonging. It’s not all about work though is it? It’s the whole picture and that’s a delicate balancing act for sure.
But if you’re on that emotional rollercoaster and you can feel panic brewing what do you do?
Do you turn in on yourself and go down a rabbit hole?
Do you dive into the job section on LinkedIn?
Do you throw yourself into a world of doom and gloom?
Whatever your reaction, the first way out is awareness.
Become aware of how you’re feeling and what you’re doing.
What to do when you feel the panic rising
The easiest way to shift your perspective is to take action.
Step one
Change the environment – get outside
Step two
Change the activity – walk, go to the gym, get a coffee, walk the dog
Step three
Conscious breathing – connect to your breath
Step four
Decide whether you need to park this search for now and come back later
Step five
When you’ve calmed down approach from a different angle
