Job Satisfaction - Are You Looking in the Right Place? (Part 1)

Job satisfaction

Did you spot that article in the HBR – ‘Why You Should Have (at Least) Two Careers’?

The author claimed to have four careers – a corporate strategist, US navy reserve officer, a record producer, and writer.

The corporate role helped him to fund his music career which made little or no money but made him feel good.

I’ve met plenty of people who feel satisfied with their work and just as many that don’t.

Don’t we all want to feel fulfilled and that our life and work have purpose?

We read about people who seem to have cracked it and are living the dream. I don’t know about you but I’m more inspired by real people especially when they’re doing something in service for others.

Nikky Tibbles, florist and founder of Wild at Heart and her friend Nadine Kayser, a communications expert inspire me. Both successful in their day jobs, it was their love of dogs that sparked their second career. Their vision and combined passion for compassionately reducing the world’s stray population led to the creation of the Wild at Heart Foundation.

I’d like to think we’ve helped them by being ‘early adopters’ (see what I did there?) when we rescued our Bosnian street dog, Margot, two years ago.
